Judge's Critique - Bitches

The Bearded Collie Club Championship Show - 6th December 2003

Having read some of the recent critiques and having noticed the number of young immature dogs gaining top honours throughout the year I approached this appointment with a degree of trepidation as to the state of the breed. My concerns were unwarranted as I was able to find a number of quality exhibits throughout the entry. My main cause of concern was mouths as I felt that we appear to be losing the strong scissor bite and strength of under jaw. The only other observation I would make is that a number of exhibits were poorly groomed with dirty teeth or lacked muscle. Construction you can do nothing about but presentation is in your own hands and, at this level, a poorly presented dog can cost you places. It was an absolute joy to judge the Veteran and Vintage classes with all exhibits being presented in top class order. Ladies you were all a credit to your owners and the breed – thank you for coming.
