Judges Critique

I was delighted to be able to accept the invitation to judge at The Scottish Kennel Club. A cool but sunny spring morning, a friendly welcome an excellent entry of 136 dogs making a total entry of 179 awaited me, some lovely Beardies to go over, what more could one ask. Coupled with the sporting atmosphere and the manner in which my decisions wer received, a truly unforgettable day - Thank you.

Reserve Dog C.C. Hyde & Bush's Natterjacks Just One Look

Bitch C.C. Appleby's Ch. Diotima With Grace

Reserve Bitch C.C. Barley's Potterdale Birthday Belle of Runival

Best of Breed Caramac Crown Prince

Best Puppy in Breed Moorhouse's Willowmead Just Wonderful

Minor Puppy Dog (5)

1. Miss K.S. Moorhouse - Willowmead Just Wonderful. 9 months old slate dog, lovely head with corect foreface, excellent bone, correct length of body, hope that his eye darkens, but it does tone with his coat colour at present, excels in movement, flew effortlessly around the ring with ground covering stride. Certainly one for the future. Best Puppy in Breed.

2. Mesdames A Gill & H. Cook - Gallaber Tomnavoulin. 9 months dark slate, liked his type very much, good head, lovely balanced outline with correct body shape, excellent conformation & drive, moved well when settled.

3. Mrs. H. Metcalf - Balidorn Skys The Limit of Hajacan.

Dog (7)Puppy

1. Miss K.S. Moorhouse - Willowmead Just Wonderful

2. Mr. & Mrs. K. Hicks - Multan Master Touch. Dark slate of good type, pleasing outline, good head, lovely expression, good neck & topline, presented a very nice picture standing, moved well but not with the drive or reach of 1.

3. Mr. & Mrs. S. Inglis - Gallus Black Eyed Boy.

Junior Dog (12)

1. Mrs. D. Barley - Runival Loch Don. Quality pale slate of very nice type, enough good coat to enhance his body shape, nicely blanced construction which showed in his movement - moved out well. I look forward to seeing him when mature, hopefully with some more weight.

2. Mrs. C. Hardy - Otterswish O'Connor Profusely coated youngster at the pale stage at the moment, correct head with excellent eye & expression, good length to height ratio, level topline both standing & moving, another who really excels on the move, close decision with 1.

3. Mr. & Mrs. G.&L. Peirson - Arranbrae Sicillian

Novice Dog (6)

1. Mrs. D. Barley - Runival Loch Don

2. Mr. & Mrs. A. Prescott - Calston Easter Special for Deanfield - Taf . Well constructed with good angulation fore and aft, nice head and eye, good expression, moved well but not quite the freedom of 1.

3. Mr. & Mrs. A. Hards - Runival Loch Na Keal

Debutante Dog(5)

1. Mrs. D. Barley - Runival Loch Don

2. Mrs. H. Dorans - Slanjavah Beinn Gibeach. Good head, eye and reach of neck, level topline, good angulation, moved well.

3. Miss S. Fongueuse - Talraz Royal Recruit

Post Graduate Dog(14)

1. Mrs. E. Aughey - Aughenaird Double Trouble. Very impressive dark slate boy, strong head, dark eye, well arched neck, lovely front, good ribs, well bodied, steady mover. Extremely well constructed but unfortunately his owner/handler does not show him to his full potential, has to be gone over to be appreciated.

2. Mesdames E. Cinnamond & N.Parsons - Cinneyas Soul Searcher. Plainly marked Blue - with very good colour and toning eye, who is getting there slowly but surely, lovely head. well made overall, handled to bring out the best in him, moved well with the minimum of effort.

3. Mr. D. Moir - Winaria Wallace.

Limit Dog (17)

1. Messrs D.Hyde & A. Bush - Natterjacks Just One Look. Beautiful dark slate in superb coat, have always liked him, well balanced, attractive head, good neck, excellent rib, I feel that he has much more to come and when fully mature will take some beating. Pulled out all the stops to win this very strong class and the Reserve Dog CC.

2. Mrs. S. Hood - Bumbleridge Woody Woo. Lovely dark brown, with gorgeous head, eye and expression, nicely constructed throughout with well textured coat, level topline, moved with purpose. Very well handled and presented to bring out the best in him.

3. Dr.P.S. & Mrs. Y.M. Fox - Bushblades Chance Remark

Open Dog (9)

1. Mrs. A.C. Richardson - Caramac Crown Prince. Superb head & eye that toned so beautifully with his quality coat, good strong arched neck set in well placed shoulders, deep capacious ribcage, lovely overall length and proportion, such an easy mover, looked good both standing and moving, brown dog of sheer quality, I had great pleasure in awarding him the Dog C.C. and Best Of Breed.

2. Mr. J. & Mrs. T. Nunley - Ch. Brenrigas Double Take. Worthy Champion but today did not have the sparkle of 1. Most masculine head, dark eye and melting expression, correctly angulated fore and aft, straight harsh coat and delightful temperament, moved with purpose, well handled and presented.

3. Miss L. & Mrs. B. Marshall & Burnett - Colliela Roin

Minor Puppy Bitch (5)

1. Mrs. V. Cant - Thistlebank Double Exposure. Very Appealing 6 months slate baby, most feminine in head and expression, pretty young miss of such promise, being shapely and stylish with excellent body proportions throughout, need to settle when moving, but this will come with time.

2. Mr. & Mrs. W. Gault - Lochbara Gypsy Rose. 7 months slate, much to like about this youngster, very appealing head and expression, nice reach of neck, level topline, balanced front & rear angulation, moved well for her age.

3. Mrs. E. Nelson - Thornyhill Serendipity

Puppy Bitch (6)

1. Miss S. Walker - Bendale Eternal Flame of Walkerbrae. 9 months slate, lovely youngster who oozes quality & type, utterly feminine in head and expression, shapely and well constructed, still a bit unco-ordinated at times when moving, but the essentials are there.

2. Mrs. A.C. Waldron - Snowmead Sequent. Different type to 1, but is very well constructed throughout, nice steady movement earned her this place, well handled and presented. Needs time to mature.

3. Mrs. A.M. Paterson - Gallus Drop Dead Gorgeous.

Junior Bitch (12)

1. Mr. J. & Mrs. T. Nunley - Custom Maid For Brenriga. Light slate, not in best of coat at the moment, which showed her excellent construction to full advantage, super head with good eye, lovely reach of neck going into excellent shoulders, level topline, correctly angulated fore and aft, exceptional easy movement, will trouble the best when fully mature.

2. Mrs. C. Hardy - Otterswish Bernadette. Much to like about this young lady, lovely head with good eye, nice neck and shoulders, balanced bitch of very pleasing quality, excellent coat, moved freely with drive.

3. Mr. G.J. McKeown - Moonhill True Blue

1. Mr. J. & Mrs. T. Nunley - Custom Maid For Brenriga

2. Miss S. Walker - Bendale Eternal Flame of Walkerbrae

3. Mrs. A.M. Paterson - Gallus Drop Dead Gorgeous

Debutante Bitch (12)

1. Miss S. Walker - Bendale ~Eternal Flame of Walkerbrae

2. Mrs. A.M. Paterson - Gallus Drop Dead Gorgeous. Plesing outline, good neck and shoulders, balanced head with good mouth and eye. Would have liked a little more front extension, but handled well, could have moved with more enthusiasm.

3. Mr. R.G. & Mrs. L.M. Woolley - Pipadene Pastel Portrait

Post Graduate Bitch (19)

1. Miss S. Walker - Chanderly Moonlight Star of Walkerbrae. Quality brown with excellent toning eye, good length of neck flowing into well laid shoulders, excellent depth and length of rib, nice rear angulation, plenty of drive, well balanced and excellent mover, coming into good quality coat, just needs a litter more of her correctly textured jacket to complete the picture, well handled and presented.

2. Mr. A. & Mrs. J. Wood - Pepperjay Always N. Forever. Slate of gorgeous shape and excellent construction throughout, nicely balanced head, good neck and shoulders, excellent topline. Steady easy mover, but trifle unsettled today and did not fully co-operate with her handler.

3. Mr. J. & Mrs. M.E. Harkin - Claudalla Polly Toddle

Limit Bitch (12)

1. Mesdames A.Gill & H. Cook - Gillaber Cairnacay. Quality blue, now fulfilling early promise, lovely head and neck, good length, well angulated, ideal in make, shape and size, lovely coat, her flowing movement won her this really strong class.

2. Mr. G. & Mrs. L. Spurrier - Geliland Thru' The Mirror. Another lovely feminine slate, in very nice order, beautifully balanced throughout, lovely head and melting expression. Close decision between 1 & 2, but couldn't match the reach and drive of 1 today.

3. Mr. S.C. & Mrs. M. Appleby - Natterjacks Just Perfect for Diotima. Another quality bitch. All 3 could change places another day.

Open Bitch (21)

What a wonderful class of top quality bitches, unfortunately there were not enough cards to do justice to them.

1. Mr. S.C. & Mrs. M. Appleby - Ch. Diotima With Grace. Absolutely delightful dark slate quality lady. I have always admired her and today she was in top form, fully mature and in full bloom, feminine head with melting dark eye and expression, elegant neck leading into well placed shoulders, immaculately presented with gorgeous full coat which totally enhanced her shape, free flowing effortless movement, well deserved Bitch CC. Unfortunately she outmoved her handler in the Challenge !!

2. Mrs. D. Barley - Potterdale Birthday Belle of Runival. Another quality slate which I liked very much, excellent head with sweet expression, super neck and lay of shoulders, correct length to height ratio, good rib, well angulated rear, moved with reach and drive, shown well in full coat, presented in lovely condition, just outmoved by 1 on the day, but certainly a worth Reserve Bitch CC.

3. Mrs. A.C. Waldron - Ch. J'Aime De Chester at Snowmead (Imp)
